Florida is a great climate for a typical garden because it offers a warm yet temperate weather during the summer, and a pleasant, but often cool, winter. The major city of Miami, located on the Atlantic Ocean, is the southernmost city in the continental United States and so the weather is generally pretty mild (and rainy!) during the summer months.
The subtropical environments in Florida are suited to a broad range of plants. Plants in the warmest parts of the state grow in the south, with drier conditions. They are often perennials or flower for a year or longer. In the cooler regions, plants grow longer, and often remain perennial.
Winter can be very mild and can cause Florida gardens to flower earlier than they would in colder climates. The favorite times to garden in Florida are April and May. Even though it may still be cold, you can start plants early. There is less danger of frost in Florida than in cold climates, so you can start plants well before the questions are asked by homeowners in other areas. Plus, you'll have time to grow each season in the spring and summer, and then rest in the autumn and winter days. d2c66b5586
