We recommend that you store and download your website list from a secure web server (https://), to help protect against data tampering. After the list is downloaded, it's stored locally on your employees' computers so if the centralized file location is unavailable, they can still use Enterprise Mode.
I recently set up two new servers running 2008 R2. On one of these servers I found that Internet Explorer was not updating. After supposedly installing the update, it still shows IE 8 as the browser. I attempted to install the Offline IE 11 installer. I also, used command line to remove IE 8 and any partial installs of other versions. I installed IE 11 using the offline installer, and when opening IE, I found it was running 8. Any ideas on getting this properly updated? Thanks!

IE8 development started in or before March 2006. In February 2008, Microsoft sent out private invitations for IE8 Beta 1, and on March 5, 2008, released Beta 1 to the general public, although with a focus on web developers. The release launched with a Windows Internet Explorer 8 Readiness Toolkit website promoting IE8 white papers, related software tools, and new features in addition to download links to the Beta. Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) added new sections detailing new IE8 technology. Major press focused on a controversy about Version Targeting, and two new features then called WebSlice and Activities. The readiness toolkit was promoted as something "developers can exploit to make Internet Explorer 8 'light up'."
We'll be using an unpatched copy of Windows Server 2008 R2 as the target for the first section of this tutorial. An evaluation copy can be downloaded from Microsoft so that you can better follow along.
In this short post you will see the steps to disable IE enhanced security in windows server 2012 R2. Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) establishes security settings that define how users browse Internet and intranet Web sites.
These settings also reduce the exposure of your server to Web sites that might present a security risk. It is not recommended to disable IE enhanced security in windows server 2012 R2 servers because it can reduce the security and can potentially expose the server to attacks.
To disable IE enhanced security in windows server 2012 R2, launch the Server Manager, on the left hand side click on Local Server. On the right hand side click on the On link next to IE Enhanced Security Configuration.
So I am still running i.e. 8 on this server, so i tried to install 9, but the only offline installer i can find keeps saying its not the correct o/s and i'm running windows 2008 r2 (64) whic the microsoft link takes me to a vista / 2008 installer but fails.
For all those with application compatibility issues why not deploy a RDSH 2008R2 server to a RDS 2012 environment. In this article I will show you how to deploy a RDSH 2008R2 server to a RDS 2012/R2 environment.
This worked perfectly for me, so thanks for this article! However, we have a heavily used app by over 100 users that requires an additional server for load balancing. I have tried adding the second server to the web.config file, as well as creating a farm of the two 2008 servers and putting the farm name in the file but both just break the connection. Any suggestions? Thanks again! 2b1af7f3a8
