I was happy to find the upgrade to CS6 for some of my clients, since I always tell them that a free upgrade to the latest CS means that they'll have a free copy of CS2. But I'm not too thrilled about that -- even though I'm sure I can port my clients over to CS6, I'm still going to have to activate the copy of CS2 in their installations. After all, my client's are paying me for my services and I'd prefer not to have to do work for nothing, as I don't really want to work for free. So I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this, since the ability to activate a serial key will certainly be limited to those who actually purchased the premium version of CS2 back in the day. Do any of you have CS2 Premium Plus available? If so, how do you use it? How does it affect your CS6 installations? I'm guessing that it's better to have the upgrade activated than to have the software completely useless if the key doesn't work.
Today I got an email from Adobe informing me that they are closing the registration servers for CS2, as well as the server that they had been hosting beta access. One of the reasons is that they need to shut down the registration servers for CS2 and they don't have the infrastructure to host them anymore. The other reason is that people who actually purchased a copy of CS2 back in 2005 can now register the software in their CS6 installations. If that's the case, then I actually have a license that I can activate my copy of CS2 now -- if they can register the serial key, I think that's the case. If not, I have to send it in for an activation.
If the Adobe community volunteers were not notified when Adobe removed the activation free version, which by the way was not available until November of 2009, then why should any customer expect that they will get a free copy when Adobe removed the ability to request it?
If you can't download the fix, don't email them, they'll simply ignore your e-mail and you'll be SOL. Don't waste time or energy e-mailing or calling them about this matter. They'll tell you to download the fix on their site, where you will be confronted with a new set of registration screens.
I'm just letting you know what I know. Adobe would like to be seen as a giant company, but they're not. They're a small company, and they're doing everything they can to make their users feel better about themselves by saying they're sorry. I'm sure that's what they think they're doing.
