The aim of this research was to study the effect of different twisted tape inserts on the condensation heat transfer (CHT) and pressure drop in horizontal channels. The investigated cases were (1) plain channels, (2) channels with plain tape and (3) channels with twisted tape. The twisted tape was tested with two different directions (in-plane and out-of-plane), and four different twist angles (0, 30, 45 and 60 degrees). The CHT and pressure drop measurements were conducted on Isobutane at temperature between 24 and 45 degree C.The CHT of the twisted and plain channels decreased with increasing the twist angles. The twisted in-plane channels had the highest CHT at any twist angle, followed by the plain channel. On the other hand, twisted out-of-plane channels had the lowest CHT. The twisted out-of-plane channel had the highest CHT. This was due to the twisted tape having a higher heat transfer than the plain and twisted in-plane tapes. The pressure drop of the twisted tapes was reduced compared with plain channels, although the pressure drop of the twisted in-plane channels was higher than the twisted out-of-plane channels. The lowest pressure drop was recorded at the twisted in-plane case and the highest at the twisted out-of-plane cases.

So, we've tried to make it as simple as possible, without making it really complicated. And, it's not because of the taping. And, in fact, it's because of the shape of the tubes.
