If a Remington serial number does not have date code - whether that code is a barrel date code or the?actual date manufacture? then only the information as outlined above will be considered. All other information is irrelevant. Even serial number information from Remington themselves would be irrelevant if that information does not give a date of manufacture.
The actual date of manufacture for the serial numbered firearm is fairly cut and dry, the factory will always stamp this number on the firearm. It will rarely be anything other than a four digit number. It will include the month and year the barrel was made. It will at most also include part of the year the barrel was manufactured. If for example the serial number on the weapon is 7002001, there is a good chance the year of manufacture is 2001 and the barrel was manufactured in the fall of that year. If the firearm is a newly manufactured item, the serial numbers are usually assigned at the factory. Therefore serial number 7000000 would be the final serial number to be assigned.
What the serial number means is, is that the firearm does not have any previous history of ownership. If the serial number is say 589429001...., then somebody else actually owned the firearm a number of years ago, and that previous owner has already had the barrel shortened. The serial number tells the police, Customs, and border unit exactly who it belongs to. This serial number also provides a convenient way for Remington Customer Service to link that firearm to the previous owner, as they are able to reference the serial number. For example, a 2nd amendment claimant may desire to know the history of the firearm. The serial number is the best proof of that history. If the serial number is not machine readable, it is not able to be properly linked to the previous owner.
If Remington serial number number has no date of manufacture, here is where things get messy. If the serial number has no machine readable date of manufacture, then Remington would have to contact the previous owner of the firearm to see if they will recall what year they purchased the gun. d2c66b5586
